Remote car starters are probably one of the least understood products a 12 volt retailer sells. Looks like a lot of bad information is floating. I wanted to take a few minutes and dispel some myths about remote car starters:
Remote car starters will void my new car warranty - nothing could be further from the truth! The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 forbids a automaker to do so. If your car dealer tells you that you have to use their remote car starter or your vehicle warranty will be void, inform them that they are in violation of the Magnus-Moss Warranty Act of 1975.
Remote car starters are bad for my car - I never received any information to support it. In fact, many top mechanics will agree that allowing the car to warm up for several minutes before driving can extend the life of your motor.
Remote Car Starters Waste Gas - Actually, as a tie with number 2, heating your car can actually improve your gas mileage. When you hop in a car on a very cold day and take off the bus, your engine is working overtime and consuming more gas. Warming it up and diluting the oil for a few minutes can improve your benefits. And isn't it easier to heat a button to let it out in the cold outside than to heat it?
I have a manual transmission. I can't get a car starter - in the past, I would agree. Today's remote car starter technology has come a long way. High-end starting gear has a very sophisticated, yet easy to use, method to prevent the vehicle from starting. If you have a manual transmission vehicle, you can enjoy the same comfort and convenience as vehicle drivers.
I do not need a long distance remote. My Park My Car in My Driveway - The fact that you park your driveway at home is all well and good, but what happens when you are at the mall .... or movies .. .Or a restaurant…. You may need to park 100 yards or more away. Don't you want to take advantage of your remote starter all the time? of course you do.
I have keyless entry already. I don't need to add to my starter installation - well ... you probably do. Your factory remote is probably less than 100 feet away. High end remote starters have a range of at least 800 feet. So if you're already in line at the movies and can't remember that you closed your doors, don't worry. Just press the lock button on your remote starter remote and you can be sure that your car is locked. Not to mention all the other feature features that you can add to your starter installation.
My key has a "chip", so I can't get a remote car starter - almost every vehicle's key now has a "chip" in it. That chip is designed to protect your car from overheating. A remote starter essentially "hot wires" your car in a very controlled manner. So for a starter to work, this is what your car needs to assume that the key is in the ignition.
